{"id":3,"date":"2014-10-23T19:42:24","date_gmt":"2014-10-23T19:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dlnreng.hawaii.gov\/gfcp\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2026-03-04T15:22:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T01:22:09","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dlnreng.hawaii.gov\/gfcp\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 179 Flood Control and Flood Water Conservation authorizes the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/floodplan.hawaii.gov\/\">Statewide General Flood Control Plan (SGFCP) Website<\/a>\u00a0to serve as a guide for linking partnering agencies and community groups, as well as providing data and tools required to strategize flood improvement needs and goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Land and Natural Resources developed the State General Flood Control Plan in September 1983 in order to coordinate floodplain management initiatives. The goal of the State General Flood Control Plan (SGFCP) is to assist the State in decision-making regarding flood hazards and prioritize areas to best focus limited resources.<\/p>\n<p>The last Statewide inventory of flood history and flood studies was performed in 1994.\u00a0 Therefore, the State General Flood Control Plan is currently being updated and will utilize digital database and website\u00a0technologies to provide educational information and public awareness tools on flood risks,\u00a0flood histories, hydrologic data, mitigation initiatives, a library for flood studies and post-flood\u00a0reports, and other related information. The SGFCP update will also implement geospatial and\u00a0internet technologies that will allow partner agencies to share, communicate, and utilize\u00a0collected information.<\/p>\n<p>HI-DLNR is also responsible for supporting and maintaining Hawaii\u2019s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
