A FIS is a compilation and presentation of&nbsp; flood hazard areas along rivers, streams, coasts, and lakes within a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A FIS is based on different information, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Historic information (such as riverflow, storm tide, and rainfall data)<\/li><li>Meteorologic data<\/li><li>Topographic data<\/li><li>Hydrologic data<\/li><li>Hydraulic data<\/li><li>Open-space conditions<\/li><li>Flood-control works<\/li><li>Development<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The results of the FIS are shown on FEMA\u2019s flood maps called Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), and in the accompanying description of the study called an FIS report.
