The Kaneohe/Kahaluu Hazard Awareness and Response Program (KKHARP) will hold its first class on September 23 at 6:30 PM at the Key Project in Kahaluu. They Key Project is located at 47-200 Waihee Rd just mauka of the Kahaluu District Park.

The goal of the KKHARP program is to enhance community resilience to multiple hazards. Participants in the program will learn the hazards we face as an island community and what we must do to mitigate those hazards. The program participants will not only find out how to protect themselves and their families, but they will learn what we can do as a community to respond to and recover from any disaster.

The HARP program is life-changing, because it is a guide to building resilience into your life and into your community. How involved you want to be, is up to you. However, you will learn what we need to do to develop a disaster recovery plan for our community.

Emergency preparedness agencies top priority must be to restore damaged infrastructure. It will be a week or more before we can expect any government aid to reach us. We will be on our own for at least a week. We need to be prepared to camp out. You need to understand a category three hurricane will destroy most of our older homes.

Know what to do to protect your family and to be able to recover with the least disruption to your life. Help us plan to care for our neighbors and get our community back to normal as soon as possible. Come to the HARP class.  Build resilience into your lives and into our community.
