In anticipation of the event, here are a few emergency preparedness tips:
1) Build a Kit – have a 7-Day emergency supply of water, food, flashlight, radio, first aid kit, important documents, some cash and personal hygiene items for you and each member of your family to include your pets.
2) Make a Plan – Know where to go for shelter according to the type of disaster. Example: Tsunamis – move inland towards the mountains or vertical up tall buildings if in the evacuation area near the coast; Hurricanes, listen to the radio or TV to see which Hurricane Shelters are open and find the nearest one to evacuate to if you’re unable to shelter-in-place.
3) Stay Informed – NOAA Weather Radio and automatic emergency alerts are great. Sign up for emergency alerts via email or text messages at www.Nixle.com/honolulu.
