When was your last “Insurance Check-up”?

Posted on Apr 16, 2018 in NFIP News, Uncategorized

Much like the same reasons we visit the doctor each year for a physical exam, property owners should also have an annual insurance check up on their home.  The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) suggests homeowners review their policies and find the answers to the following:

  • What type of coverage do you have,
  • How much coverage do you need, and
  • What are your current deductibles and discounts

Without periodically reviewing your insurance policies, you may inadvertently assume you are insured when you are in fact not covered.  For example, homeowners and renters insurance does not typically cover flood damage.  Sadly this is the situation for many Kauai and Oahu residents affected by the severe weather over this past weekend and that dropped over 28″ of rain in a 24 period in Hanalei. For more information on buying flood insurance or filing a flood insurance claim, call your  insurance agent or the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Help Center at 1-800-427-4661.   You can also visit the NFIP website at: www.floodsmart.gov
