INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON FEMA’s PROPOSED FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAPS FOR MAUI COUNTY

An informational public meeting to educate residents and business owners on the islands of Maui and Molokai regarding the recently released proposed FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) is planned for September 8th and 9th.  These proposed map changes are tentatively scheduled to become effective in the Fall of 2015 and could impact a property’s flood risk and requirements for federally mandated flood insurance. 

To assist residents and business owners in understanding the map adoption process and flood insurance requirements, Maui County will be hosting two public meetings: 

 

Monday, September 8, 2014, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

DEPARTMENT OF HAWAIIAN HOMELANDS

Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

FEMA Region IX, along with personnel from DLNR and Maui County will be available to answer questions and assist property owners in determining their flood risk.  County officials will be available to answer building permit questions for property owners considering developing in newly proposed high-risk flood zones.  In addition, a representative from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Honolulu District Office will be available at the Molokai meeting.
